Dustin Bhoyrul is a barrister-at-law of 10 years’ standing. Called to the Bar of England and Wales at the Honourable Society of the Lincoln’s Inn and to the Bar of the Republic of Mauritius, Dustin Bhoyrul was a State Laureate at the end of his secondary education and was awarded the State Scholarship to read law at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He thereafter completed the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) at the College of Law (now, the University of Law).
Dustin also holds an LL.M de droit français et européen (LL.M in French and European Law) from the Université de Paris I – Panthéon – Sorbonne.
Dustin has previously held the positions of Partner and Senior Associate at Mauritian law firms, after starting his legal career as a Corporate and Commercial Associate at the Mauritian office of a leading international offshore law firm.
He combines with his experience in private practice, his in-house experience. Dustin was appointed as Executive Secretary of the Mauritius Institute of Directors (MIoD), where he acted in a legal and company secretarial capacity, responsible for legal compliance; advising companies and registered associations on corporate governance compliance and corporate governance best practices. As Executive Secretary at the MIoD, Dustin was also a member of the Private Sector Anti-Corruption Taskforce (PACT), being especially involved with the legal subcommittee to the PACT, as to the legal structure and ancillary legal issues pertaining to the PACT. He was also appointed Observer (contributing) on the Boards & Directors subcommittee to the Revision of the Mauritian Code of Corporate Governance Committee, under the aegis of the National Council for Corporate Governance.
He also trained in International Arbitration in Paris, in the Dispute Resolution teams of international leading law firms like Jones Day, Herbert Smith Freehills and Clifford Chance, and developed experience in commercial arbitration disputes pertaining to telecommunications, project finance and construction.
Dustin acts for domestic and international clients (multinationals, bank syndicates, corporate borrowers, sovereign funds, local financial services operators, and small and medium enterprises) in a broad range of sectors including the banking, financial services, real estate, and IT industries. He has gathered substantial experience advising clients on all aspects of corporate, commercial and financing work, including cross-border syndicated lending and microfinancing transactions, mergers & acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures, franchising, distribution, employment and general regulatory matters.
