Mrs Cathapermal is am member of the Barreau du Quebec, Montreal, the Mauritian Bar Association, and an accredited mediator and arbitrator. She started her career as lawyer for the Government of Quebec in Montreal (Direction des Affaires Juridiques , Environnement) and afterwards practiced with a private legal firm in Montreal; mainly in ICT, Media, Broadcasting, Competition,Corporate and Environmental law. 

As the Chief legal and Regulatory Officer at Mauritius Telecom for more than 15 years, she dealt with both contentious and transactional issues and advised on legal and regulatory issues in managing the products and services portfolio and industrial relations. She provided deep understanding of the regulations affecting the sector and ensured compliance with fintech law and provided legal and compliance risk analysis , compliance audit and guidance in the realms of data privacy. As a barrister, she regularly appear before the Information and Communication Technologies Authority, the Independent Broadcasting Authority, the Data Protection Commission, the Competition Commission of Mauritius and other tribunals. On a pro bono basis, she assist environmental organisations on various issues and advises women’s organisations on legal matters.
